For our SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder review, the units arrived in a normal brown shipping box with the appropriate labels. The retail boxes were inside, featuring green lids and sides. Each had the typical product information on it, including a picture of and details about the unit.
Inside each retail box, the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder was sitting upright with cardboard inserts on two sides to protect and keep it secure during shipping. It was easy to lift the unit out of the box and remove the inserts and plastic packaging. Since it was assembled inside the box, all we had to do was insert the batteries and program the unit to start using it.
Here’s a list of everything that’s included in each retail box:
SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder
One single-portion bowl for dry food
One split-portion bowl for dry and wet food
One SureFlap RFID collar tag
One silicone mat
Design and Highlights
Throughout testing for this SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder review, the design of the unit was pleasing. Its overall size is 9 inches wide, 12.63 inches deep and 7.88 inches high, and it weighs just 3.3 pounds. This height includes the arch that contains the microchip and RFID tag reader.
The mat sits in front of the eating area and measures 8 inches wide and 4.38 inches deep. It allows pets to stand and eat on it, catching bits of food for easy cleanup.
The eating area is the opening behind the mat and under the arch. It measures 8.25 inches wide and 6.13 inches high. The bowl sits behind this area and underneath the fold-up lid. It measures 4.13 inches wide, 1.19 inches deep and 6.31 inches high. Additional mats and bowls are available for purchase separately in gray, blue, green and pink colors.
On the back of the feeder are the operating buttons. From left to right, these include the open and close button for the lid, the program button to add a new pet and the training button. The user manual provides thorough, easy-to-understand instructions for using these functions.
After programming a unit for a pet for this SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder review, the lid over the food bowl folds up when the pet gets close enough for the reader in the arch to recognize the microchip or RFID tag.
When the pet moves away, the lid folds down to prevent other animals from eating the food as well as to keep the food fresh.
As we used the product for our SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder review, the way that the unit prevented one pet from eating the other’s food was the best feature. It ensured that each pet ate the food specific to its diet. This allowed for better dietary management than without the automatic feeder.
Another great feature was that the lid creates an airtight seal. This keeps the food noticeably fresher than leaving it out on the floor and in the open air.
The food doesn’t stale as fast, so the pets are more likely to finish what’s in the bowl before they ask for fresh food. This meant that we threw away less food than before using the feeder, which saves money.
Although the single-portion bowls for the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder are intended for dry food, they can be used for wet food too. The unit doesn’t appear to take a lot of power considering that its four C-cell batteries last for about six months. However, the unit could leave your pets without access to food when the batteries die because there’s no backup. Despite this, the low-battery indicator provides plenty of time to prevent this.
The product performance during testing for this SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder review was nearly flawless. It took two times to add the second pet to the second unit. However, this was a minor issue.
We didn’t use the training function to acclimate the pets to the feeder because it requires that the lid remain open. The pets didn’t have trouble adjusting, though. It just took a little longer for one of them to get used to it. We sprinkled a few pieces of dry food onto the mat, and it worked like a charm.
After testing the units for this SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder review, it’s clear that this unique product can eliminate feeding problems for owners of multiple pets. It’s even ideal for owners who have a cat and want to prevent their dog from eating its food. Although there are some areas for improvement, there’s no denying that the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder is a revolutionary invention that works.
